They absolutely could have replaced the head. We have to remember that these dolls were toys and breaks happened quite often. It's also possible that she had more than one doll. :)

I replied to Sassafras post, so you will need to "EXPAND" to read what I wrote.

What is the size of the body?

And, after looking at my ruler, I think the doll in her lap is even smallern than 12".

Anyway of getting a larger photo of the doll's face (in her lap)?

I was able to enlarge the photo......I don't think it's the same doll.

I think Ruth is much larger.

Yes, talk to you tomorrow, judy. Thank you for all of your replies!!

So as soon as I have the doll back I will take some good measurements. I wish I had found this board before I sent her off to be restored, hopefully I will be happy with the result.

They restored the shoulder plate, and then the woman told me that to fix the wonky eye they could either replace the eyes with new ones and make a new open-and-close mechanism, or keep the original eyes and fix them in place. I chose the latter.

I'm quite bummed out that this doll doesn't seem to be Jason Edgar. I suppose my great aunt could have had two dolls, but JE was the only one anybody ever told stories about. Maybe her head got smashed and they replaced it with Ruth's head. I wish I could ask her!

Sorry for being so late arriving, I have been unwell for a day or two. Anyway, I agree with everything Judy had to say, as well as the other folks who contributed. As far as the clothing goes .. try to find someone who will use antique fine cottons, silks, lace, buttons .. no plastic ones or snaps .. mother-of -pearl is a good choice, also small glass buttons. Silk ribbons are also nice for decorations. Try to find someone who does hand sewing too .. it can't be beat on these little clothes. As far as sewing right now my eyes are badly swollen due to allergies and I also reside in Canada. .. Best Wishes :) ... oh, I also believe she is an AM made doll and is a girl .... Joy. :):):)

Thanks, Joy. I definitely want to have a period outfit made, and made right...or find some antique clothing that will fit her.

I hope you feel better soon!

Thoughts: the wig is...okay, could be worse. Her eyes look a little weird but they don't fall out or go wonky. I wish they had cleaned her face? How can I do that?

I really need to get some clothes on her. She's only 8 1/2" from shoulder to toe. Forget the boy's outfit, I just want a pretty period dress in authentic fabrics. Any ideas as to where I can get one?

She looks a whole lot better...........I agree with the wig......Add an antique bonnet for even better results.

    What do you think Joy?

A French Bebe comes to mind, rather than German.

AM was not one of the better dolls, but probably fit the purse of most people.............
