It is a nice table and it looks old, but I have a feeling something is not quite right, do all the parts belong together or has it been modified over the years? And further the usual questions, how old, where from, what kind of wood etc?

Renaissance revival lamp table. Circa 1880. Pics are not clear enough to determine if it has been modified or not but it looks right to me based on what I can see. Top is split but think this a function of a glue bond failing as opposed to it having originally been an expansion table.

Brad, since I've learned most of what I know about furniture from you, can you explain what makes this renaissance revival? Before seeing your answer, I thought it was Eastlake. Thank you.

You might consider it transitional to Eastlake. The top shape in particular makes me lean toward it being RR.

I think this more typically Eastlake with the incised carving and fretwork. Note the top shape and how the center finial is smaller.

Would say this is a more pure example of renaissance revival

Yeah, another thing, is the OP table american or from europe? I don't even know what country the poster is from, never mind the table.

European, I am in Dutchieland. But my table could have been made in Indonesia.

Interesting, not my field of interest but cool teak tables, especially the first one.

Well, pretty well agreed it's victorian but generally speaking, tough to identify wood species with photos alone. There are wood data bases that can help ID wood species.

Thanks for that link, might come in handy in general.
I think this table may be some sort of teak, because the other examples were made of that...
I guess my questions have been answered: how old? +/- 1880, where from? dutch colonial, indonesia, wood? teak wood... and it seems all original.
    I am getting good at this...only 25 euros(30 dollar) I paid for it. :)

That was a good number but, the table needs work.

It does yes, the spit in the top might have a correlation with the water damage signs underneath... someone used it as a plant stand and spilled water on a regular basis I think...

Interesting Dutch colonial examples that are very similar. Hadn't even considered the possibility but certainly could be a match, given that the OP is in the Netherlands.
