Hi all. This has been in my "backlog" for a while so I thought Id see what its about. I normally dont buy plate, but the "USN" intrigued me. Its 10 inches tall and about 4 wide, and I cant make heads nor tails of the markings. Any input is always appreciated.

    Hi
Silver soldered means that the handle and the spout were soldered with silver instead of copper solder. It looks like a demitasse pot. You and your camera are blocking the fouled anchor so it is very hard to see. No name of a ship anywhere?
I miss the good old days.

    Hi,
I am perplexed. I do not think it is a "real" USN piece. I am thinking of a "fantasy" piece. If from an officer's mess I am probably sure it is a fake. have to think about it for a while.

Nice piece, the '28' indicates the year of manufacture...

    Hi,
Okay now that I thought about it. It seems to be the real thing, it just seemed to be too perfect and I was concerned.

Haha! I have the same coffee Urn. mine was made by Gorham . It was made in 1927. My family had several U.S. Navy officers. This item most likely belonged to Dr. William P. Mull, a U.S. Navy Doctor who served in Ww1 and Ww2.
it is in nearly perfect condition. I'd really like to know it's value.

I suppose it may be from 1927, but I am not familiar with any date marking by Gorham on silverplated wares. Their date codes for sterling holloware were pictorial during the 20th century.

Gorham often date-coded their silverplate holloware, including hotelware, but as Bakersgma points out, it wouldn't have been a number, even though 1927 is very close to the '28 dating on Johnny's smaller International Silver pot - suppose there's a possibility that the number was stamped by the Navy...
