Hi and WELCOME, Cardon!!! You'll be in great company what with all the "jewelies" who hang out here!!!!! Along with some fun to be had in the learning process!! I did have a question.....I edited down the back of your brooch and hi-lighted where I'm wondering if there is/was some writing under that gold wash???? Can you see it?? Forgot....it's also a LOVELY brooch!!
And, It WOULD help if I loaded what I did!!

 

Thanks Aquitaine for the welcome and the help. I did take a couple more pictures where you were looking and I think you might be right. But it is very hard to tell. It looks like a rectangle and almost two lines of something written but the gold wash is so thick that I can not make it out. Here are the best of the pics I could get. Almost like a L or a P at the start of it. WOW now I am going to have to poke my eyes back in my head. Thanks again. I appreciate all your help.

Won't necessarily take it all off, but will retard the spread.
Mineral Oil on a soft cloth. Rub it in to all the spots showing the verdigris. Wipe any excess off.
