I picked up this ashtray for .59 cents and I don't know much about Mexican silversmiths,he seemed to be up there with the elite. The inlaid stone has came out over the years and I was wondering how bad that would effect the value of the piece?
I don't know how rare it is,I could t find an appx. Number for how many was made.
    Thanks as always,

Castillo usually worked in silver, not plate. And yes that is one of the higher quality makers.
What makes you think it is plated? Does it say Plata? That is silver in Spanish.

Los Castillo is one of the better makers and this would be a desirable piece. The loss of inlaid stone and plating really kills the value on this. Still a very good buy at 59 cents.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Just out of curiosity, was this made to be an ashtray? It does appear to have been used as one. It doesn't appear to have the grooves that are often (not always) put around the edges of ashtrays to hold cigarettes or cigars.
