Marked only STERLING. It seems like the font should be telling me.

What a strange place to be marked. I'm pretty sure we're looking at something designed in the 1890's. These odd handle shapes show up a lot then.

The font may be reminding you of that often used by coin silver makers to strike their names. Could this be a very early use of Sterling and stamped as such instead of the usual coin markings.
Not yet established enough as the new standard to be cast into the design.

But is there anything "souvenir-like" about your spoon?

Only that I bought it with a bunch of souvenir spoons of the period. Five cents each.
