Featured Help with possible antique

    Hello everyone!
    i couldnt think where else to ask about this.My mum bought this whale carving from a shop in berwick scotland, i found one identicle for sale on ebay for £40,000! imagine my surprise, there appear to be subtle differences but i was wondering if someone could help me understand this piece.I have attached my mums one as well as the seller on e-bays..very much appreciated

    Ooops sorry inside this container is a small circle with "MARIE CELESTE"

    It may be old and have a limited number of survivors. I would think it should fetch at least 40 bucks.

    I'm pretty sure this is a cast item, not actually a carving. Souvenir value only, not 40,000 pounds.....
    You might try posting a photo of the underside of the base.

    maybe a real whale ' weighs ' 40,000 pounds.........but that's all.

    The ebay one shows a mark on the back under the tale.
    Does your have the same mark? Can you take a better picture of it?

    I believe OP's is the picture on the left. The one on the right was noted as being from the Ebay auction.

    Looking at the ebay sellers other listings I think the seller made a mistake entering the asking price. I'd guess his price is 44.59 IMHO.

    Then the discount was his chance to correct that.....but he didn't ..did he !

    He says.....make an offer..& don't let the opening price put you off.....so I'm thinking he meant the full price.....just to get views..!
