Hi all i acquired this a little while ago and thought i would ask about it here. It is 7" long. string tied faux pearls.I thought the clasp looked vintage. I had a Richelieu strand with the same clasp and it was from the 1940's
At first i thought bracelet, but looks like a necklace.
    It is marked Japan

    Your thoughts.

I don't know but the clasp is common I think.

Vintage yes, doll, not sure! Maybe others will know.

7" could be a bracelet length, but with the graduated beads and the necklace-like clasp seems a bit odd for a bracelet.

It's possible, but I'd be surprised if they used that clasp on a doll necklace.

That's what I was thinking. Odd w/that clasp.

Maybe has been restrung for doll or bracelet use.

Thank you all for the replies. is that because the clasp is a standard size for a normal necklace. something smaller would be for a doll?

Not such a doll expert, but do run into dolls at estate sales, etc. If a doll had a pearl necklace from that era (1950s/60s) more likely would have been permanent, even and small beads, not graduated, not removable. Also never have seen a doll with a piece of jewelry stamped "Japan". Just a couple things even beyond the clasp adding up to suggest was not its original intent.

Not to say it wouldn't make a fantastic doll necklace! :)

So most likely was restrung and now it fits a doll lol

The clasp looks worn. Like it has rubbed against skin.
    A doll wouldn't do that.
    Well maybe a Living Doll!;)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I think something like this could well be a doll necklace, especially for a high fashion doll of the period like Madame Alexander's Cissy doll. This seller claims that a similar necklace with a different clasp is original to Cissy. I'm not sure about that claim:

I would also question, as clutteredcloset did, the wear on the clasp. Perhaps this was indeed a bracelet. Or maybe the clasp was added to the doll necklace from a different source.
