Old wooden frame

I picked up this frame for fifty bucks, I thought it was beautiful, even though it was repainted, does any one know how I can find out more about it?

 

That could well be a reproduction, Claire. What's it made of? Could/would you post a photograph of the back? And a close-up photograph of a nail or two.

I THINK, someone painted over one of those large gold gilded frames.....oddly enough it doesn't look bad (to ME!) and with the right picture in it, it could look fab!!! I have that 'vintage' frame on a bunch of huge copper enamel clowns....that my Mom bought in the '60's.....so that might give you an age estimate.....I like the hints of the gold showing through!!!

I'm not sure I'm seeing much age here. Let's see what others think.

Yes I will!! I'm having trouble meeting the size requirements using my phone, but I will try resizing them and uploading as full images. Thank you!!

@Claire77, can you give us the size? And by any chance do you have any idea of the weight of this frame??? My reason for asking is, in your lightened image of the back, to show the staples (which not many showed in the darker image!) the texture of the center section (it looks like construction is in 3 sections to me) looks kind of like it's made of 'particle board'.....now, that's JUST my opinion and observation.... I want to hear what others might have to say on this.....

it's not a reproduction....it's just new.
Today...they are still making many old world looking frames......
almost all the factory artwork uses them...
