IMG_0778.JPG Hi all! We just bought this dresser today and have been spending most of the afternoon researching any information about it--we can't find anything--age, maker, style, value. We were told a man brought it in & it was his grandparents. It looks refinished (sad) and it's dove tailed, stamped 55 MAH on the back & bottom, & has 3 drawers inside the doors. ANY information would be so appreciated! We paid $250.
    Thank you!

It looks like turn of the century (1900) or so ,and quite frankly Im a little surprised at the price you paid. May I ask where yall are located ?

We bought it in upstate NY today in a small antique shop we had never been in before. What makes you believe it's 1900 or so?
    Thanks so much

    Beautiful piece!

I recently bought a dresser that sort of reminds me of this piece. My piece is in rougher shape though. I paid $75 and feel I got quite a deal.

I would love to see a pic of the inside.

The owner of the store is holding it for us bc we are moving mid October & didn't want to move it twice plus we re showing our current home--I didn't take inside pics but we've been so obsessed with learning about it that I think we re going back to pick it up! If so I'll post inside pics. The hardware on the bottom drawer are lions heads and we loved that too.

Wait for Brad (our resident furniture guy) to chime in,but I think its a wardrobe dresser, possibly for lingerie ,possibly English,no doubt mahogony. I was a little taken aback at your price becauseI see far nicer(not that this isnt lovely) "brown " furniture going for far less. Im going to be brutally honest here, and I hope you take it in the spirit in wich its meant...I think you paid far too much for a rather run of the mill piece. Please forgive me!
Ps...having lived in Albany Ny for a few years at one time,I saw so much quality antiques going for nothing it saddened me.Part of the reason I was shocked.

That's ok! Thank you though--we still love it. Plus we overpaid at a small local business. I'll consider it a good will. Thank you!

Likely a small wardrobe. Would expect shelves or drawers inside or a combination of both. I think teens -20s. Likely will never find out who made it. 55 is probably a model number. MAH stands for mahogany finish. I think $250.00 is full retail. Doubt I could get that here in semi-rural Midwest. Supporting a small business ...... Priceless!

I got one very similar to this one at an auction for $15. Had a stamp on it dating it to early 1920's. Mine is in unfinished condition, but really doesn't need anything done to it other than dusting from time to time.
