What kind of pen tip is this?

Never seen one and can't find one, probably nothing just curiosity is killin me

 

I can not see the detail, but guessing a snorkel???

 

Certainly not a Sheaffer snorkel

I usually just throw that type in the junk box

I have sold many pens and never seen one of those. I've actually learned something new!

 

Thanks Cx I hadn't seen one either and couldnt find the right key words. It is chipped so that probably hurts it but nice to know what kind it is. Had lots of pens in the past but never had one with this kind of tip....

I believe this type of nib is used for calligraphy.

Sharona, guessing that you looked at the vertical edge of the silver pocket clip for a name ?

The case looks like it is bakelite. Its not the same as jewelry where bakelite can add so much value, but you might want to check and mention that if you are listing.

I've also never seen one of these with a glass nib. Cool!

 

They still make glass pens, but they're not exactly common; dip pens are generally just used for calligraphy these days. I'd say it's made of bakelite too, which increases value.

 

I checked it is not bakelite, guessing its a cheaper version of the shaeffers....probably not worth much with the chipped tip, no marks of any kind. Not a lot of knowledge of pens, looks like some kind of lever that should spring up in the groove? cant get it to come up....maybe it don't lol

Sure looks like bakelite from here; the oxidation pattern is right. Is the inside molded or drilled out? Drilling is a really good indicator that it's bakelite. Some colors don't test well and some don't "do" chemical tests at all. If the color and weight are right it might be catalin or galaith instead of bakelite. The tests are different as is the smell. I associate those glass tips with Italian manufacture, and that green could be French/Euro plastic instead of American easily.

 

I went through a half bushel of pens and pencils and didn't find one yet. I know I've handled many and just tossed them in there.

Yours looks like the Japanese type with the half moon fill button pushed in.
