A friend of mine who is a watchmaker invited me to his shop today to look over some pens he wanted to sell me. I ended up buying just three of them.

Then, he picked something out of a box.

"Here, you can have this too, I don't want it".

    "What the heck is this...?"
    "It's a quill-holder. Go on, take it!"
    "Oh...okay...thanks!"

I've only ever seen ONE of these before, in my entire life. And that was in the collection of a friend of mine, who collects antique propelling pencils. Had she not explained what it was, I would not have had a CLUE what this was! But it is cool! They must be pretty rare because I've now seen...TWO...in 25 years of collecting antique pens and writing equipment!

Sweet! I have no idea what they're worth or how rare they are, but it's cool that you picked up on a rarity like this, and the price is definitely right!

Like I said, I have seen a couple, but I reckon that these things are pretty rare.

    Hi,
You made me fall on the floor and start to convulse. I had one several years ago but since it did not have the quill in it I had no idea what it was. I thought it was for a lead pencil. I could not find a lead big enough to stuff in it. Now I find out what it was for. I sold it for a few dollars.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

    Oh it's a quill-holder.

These things are RARE. I haven't seen more than two or three in 20-odd years of collecting!! My heart just about stopped when my friend handed this thing over and said 'take it!'.

"Friend"???? "Friend"???? That's your only descriptive term? If someone ever did that for me with such a wonderful object at the least that person would rate as and be called my "bosom buddy." ;)
