Here's what I know, my great uncle bought it at an estate sale in New England in the 50's. Mahogany. No Pledge has touched this. Casters were not original, added later but before my uncle bought it.

I would really appreciate any help.

The drawers are dovetailed solid dark wood, it's 700 miles from me right now, so this is all I have.

Wow, what a beauty! I'd say very early 20th century, can't give you a value for New England but, very sadly, "brown" furniture is "out." Too bad, because yours is so beautiful. I recently went to an auction in southern Illinois that had a dresser similar to yours, and it went for $150. If you can hold on to this, I'd do it, because you can't buy anything nearly as nice new for $150.

Thanks, it's living at my mom's right now because it huge and heavy and I'm in an apt. I'm just curious about it.

Agree with ghopper1924 but could be late 19th or early 20th. Sometimes called a bonnet chest with the idea that the cabinet was for milady's bonnet (whether ever used that way or not). Would be a hard sell here at any price in semi-rural Midwest unless painted shabby white  ...... not that I would advocate doing it to this very nice piece.

Had a very nice tall dark mahogany chest with mirror in our store for over 3 months and could not sell at any price. Our owner sold it to one of the other dealers for $40.00 and she painted it shabby white. Sold in one day for about $250.00 :(

Wow, what a depressing story. I hate that! The mahogany on this one is so beautiful. Similarly to Brad, I've seen the little cabinet called a "hatbox" as well. Same thing, more or less.

You can't buy the lumber for this dresser now for $150. Please hold on to it and don't paint it white! Hopefully within our lifetimes "brown" will come back.

If I painted it my great aunt, all 97 years of her, would "whoop" me!

I love dark wood, I'll never paint it.

I have always thought this was a gentleman's dresser.
The box being for a top hat. Small drawers for collars, studs, ties, etc.
