Hi Lloyd! These are pretty, but from looking at their bottoms, they appear to be rather new and not very preciously treasured in their manufacture. Please wait for others with oriental pottery experience to give their opinions.

Japanese Satsuma, not of great age but decent quality. Good pick up for a thrift store :woot:

I know right lol the details are incredibly beautiful , i can see the subtle differences between them , so I know (i think lol ) they are hand painted , and a lot of work must have gone into them . or on the flip side they had kids in china painting them in a sweatshop idk lol

    Not Japanese Satsuma!
These are porcelain, Chinese, fairly recent decorator items.

    Newer Chinese decor.

They have a lovely color combination.

Whoever made those did a nice job. I'm no expert on Chinese porcelain but they'll look good on somebody's mantle, and it's better they're not antique if there are small children around.

You may be able to use an emory cloth to sand the excess porcelain particles off of the bottoms.

It's not always translucent and there appears to be a heavy coat of color on it, but Lloyd, what do you think these are made from if not porcelain slip?

i feel if they were porcelain they would be of better quality and worth quite a bit of cash . they have a roughness about them(inside) and a heavy white glaze on them made to give the appearance of porcelain . I thought they were porcelain ,until i picked them up and examined them and knew they were not . but still so pretty lol

I'm pretty sure the marks are just made up and have no real purpose .
