About 25 years ago a great aunt of mine passed along a box containing family china. I just opened the box up to try to identify what was enclosed. There are about 20-25 pieces with the pattern shown. The plates have a slight gold edging. Some plates have no stamp, while others appear to say very faintly and plainly "Real Ironstone China". Any idea if this set may be authentic or a period knock-off?

Can you post a picture of the marks? Most likely, it was made by W. Adams & Co ENGLAND although there were a ton of companies making this stuff.

The maker's marks aside, usually if it says things like "real ironstone", "ironstone Staffordshire England" or "dishwasher safe" it's from later 20th century. Later transferware also feels completely different, but that one is impossible to explain.

I appreciate both of your replies. I'm not able to get a great picture of the mark as it is quite faint on all pieces that have it. With the mention of W. Adams & Co, I did find a similar mark about 2/3 down this page:http://www.thepotteries.org/mark/a/adams1.html. As you can see, just a few of the pieces are marked with a number. I'm quite certain my great grandparents brought these over from England which would have been in the early 1900's from my recollection. IMG_5454.JPG IMG_5459.JPG

Thanks, Janet. I did find the "Real Ironstone China" impression for W. Adams & Co on that site that matches what is on the set I have. Does anyone have any idea if there is any demand for this type of Ironstone? I would love to find people who appreciate it.
