Great old holiday picture, but check out the table next to Dad. Sure looks like a mortar shell or some kind of ordnance. 20994188_1887162427977547_4239791552315149911_n.jpg

Maybe he was a collector. Everything on that table looks like it's been through a war, LOL.
I'm checking out the candy dish and vase on the table at his left elbow, too.:joyful:

I'll bet they're dressed for church.

Is that some kind of leaded window with those swooping lines? I've not seen that before.

Can you get close-ups of what's on the table, and what's under the tree?

    Both women are wearing corsages.

Looks like the packages have all been opened.

    Love the mortar shells.

    Fun photo!

Mortars don't have 'shells' per se. Perhaps a tank round. The canisters look like they could be mines.

We had 40 mm shells all over the house as I was growing up. Looks familiar. Dad was head of a munitions plant in Charlotte, NC. Recognize a lot of things in the room. Very period.

I believe it's a US Navy flashlight with a red conical lens likely used for directing aircraft on a carrier.
Hard to tell if it is actually light gray or green. If green then probably Marines or Army.

There was a time (not all that long ago) when you left the bedroom in the morning you were DRESSED..............I was in my mid twenties before I ate a meal while NOT wearing a tie, and 99.99% of the time a jacket as well. Ma wouldn't take the trash down the (public) hall to the incinerator without making certain she was wearing lipstick............I always get a kick out of people who carry-on about the "lost good old days" while they are wearing cargo shorts and flip flops to a restaurant.....................

The loopy things on the window looks like garland to me - the tinsel sort..........

And they probably are, but there are several different layers of lines going on at the window - garland, then venetian blinds, then the window glass - which appears to be clear and leaded in a bit of a flower shape in the top 25% and then leaded (or divided with through-mullins) into horizontal rectangles (in 2 vertical rows) from the "point" of the upper design down to the sill. At least that's what I see - and what moreother is remarking about in post 4.
