I got this book from my aunt, 10 years ago. Unfortunately it has fallen apart. I would like to preserve it, prevent further damage, any tips? It is so beautiful. 2014-07-02 20.12.31.jpg 2014-07-02 20.12.53.jpg 2014-07-02 20.13.06.jpg 2014-07-02 20.13.39.jpg 2014-07-02 20.13.51.jpg 2014-07-02 20.14.30.jpg

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Actually, I LOVE it....although, as you stated, it is extremely tender, what with the edges and some foxing. You'll want to find the right conservator, that's for sure!!! And that's where I really can't help! Thanks for posting, and I'm sure others will be along....I think it's pretty early for some!

WOW! BEAUTIFUL! WISH IT WERE MINE!!!
Any chance there is a fore edge painting on it?
See if you can find any recommendations on FIRST magazine's website for conservators.
DON'T try this yourself and get an inert storage sleeve and/or box for it ASAP. :)

think it is too thin for that, it only contains one poem, it has only 20 pages or so, and if it were there, the sides are too damaged to see.
I would like a shallow glass box for it so i will still be able to just look at it. :)
It now has a prominent place on a missal stand(beautiful thing too, that I got from the Belgian uncle) in my livingroom.

Ah! Good point and they are usually/always gilded though I didn't see any but wasn't sure.
See if you can get some really good UV inhibitive glass then.
Probably can buy such a thing, if not call your local museum for help.

Either that, or a university library if that's handier. Any outfit with a rare book room ought to know something.

    Hi,
What a wonderful book. I would just buy an acid free box slightly larger than the book and keep it stored in there.
