I started photographing my Uncle's military items. These are the first set of medals

Hi all its been sometime since a last posted on here and missed looking at people wonderful finds .

I found ... fresh vegetables and pork chops today.(sigh) However, I have to get up at O'dark-30 tomorrow, or just flat up O'Dark, for an estate sale on a Thursday morning. Then there's a rummage sale that night with a $10 cover. They will also however have free wine and cheese. I'll probably pass on the wine so I can drive home.

 

Please do pass that up.

 

(besides, when I do rarely imbibe, it darned well better be better than what's likely to be on offer!)

We stumbled upon this dining table with a leaf and 6 legs on it. They all have wooden wheels on the end. It's a solid oak table my husband thinks that it's from the 1930s or 1940s. Mark on the bottom of the table just says 019 SF we believe hard to make it out. It's definitely an antique just trying to learn more about the piece before we decide what to do with it. * The paint on top of the table was for another project not this piece lol. Any help would be nice I have never seen a table quite like this one not sure of name maker or time era just real interested in some history.

 

Not a find, per se, but something I have an interest in -- along with my abiding interest in porcelain! I went to a gem and mineral show and got this (cool to me) phantom quartz crystal from right here on Vancouver Island! A couple of young men found a vein of these crystals while tree planting and voilà, a new enterprise was born! I thought the one crystal growing horizontally over another was cool, and when held up to a light you can see some blue-green colours in the phantom.

That phantom quartz piece is pretty sweet. Going to mount it on a base somehow so you can shine a light through it, or let natural light do its thing? The table...dunno. It wants to be older but those narrow top boards make it look more 1960 than 1900. The wheels however are old school - generally pre-WWI. Short form: I don't have a clue.

These are a few of the bits I didn't melt. The purple thing seems to be an amethyst chunk with a sterling bezel. The silver earrings are 970 Mexican silver, and the dangly earrings are gem grade rose quartz, tourmaline, and ????? I chopped up one of those 14k and pearl (mostly freshwater pearl) necklaces already. There's a hand turned wood vase made from an ash tree too, but I don't have a shot of that. Spent $41 and scrapped three rings of no particular parentage for $130 on the way home. Gotta love it when that happens!

 

Here are a few of my finds that I've been meaning to take photos of and post here - but I kept putting it off and buying more ... so that now they will no longer all fit in one single photo.
glass finds -
EAPG egg cups (I think ... not really sure what they were meant for), Fenton blue opalescent hobnail vase, Steuben paperweight - Star Stream, Hobbs oil lamp font (Sheldon Swirl, I think) sans collar and burner, part of a set of old glasses that may be English (not sure), and two old paperweights - one advertising, one with a photo of the Easter promenade down at the boardwalk.

ceramic finds -
old Gouda inkwell (with chip but looks good up on a shelf), hatpin holder with a fakety fake RS mark, which is a shame because it is so nicely painted, unmarked small Chinese vase I picked up today for $1 only because it seemed pretty old, small sgraffito redware pitcher (and serving dish not shown) by Lester Breininger, a potter who was out of Robesonia, PA , and an unmarked hand painted piece that I think is an old slop bowl.


finds made of stuff other than glass or pottery -
Syrocco souvenir box from Atlantic City, Carved shell (I think it was a shade for a lamp at one time), maybe old? maybe not? painted wood box (will probably start a thread to gather thoughts about it), and souvenir deck of cards with views of Pittsburg (minus the "h") circa 1911


bead necklaces with (unnoticed) 14K clasps ... 5 of which must be from the same "beader" because of identical clasps and spacer beads

Other jewelry - many of which I have questions about, so they will most likely turn up in their own threads later.

Ooops - pieces I forgot to put in the above photo ... both unmarked. Bracelet looks to be style referred to as 'Fred Harvey Era' ... but I don't know for certain if it is that or not


and finally ... just because they're so darned cute ... two young Goldfinches I found perched on our birdbath - they have been feeding and drinking in our backyard for the past two weeks ... initially accompanied by their Dad, but now showing up on their own

 

This american indian/ western theme compote - thrift store buy today for $4.

You're welcome! I forgot to mention that there is an original version of Westward Ho by ... (somebody) ... and a not-so-old reproduction version. I've read and reread how to distinguish the goblets apart, but every time I run across one I forget which is which ... so I end up avoiding it. There is probably a way to tell the old compotes from the not-so-old also. I bet @TallCakes would know how!

I'll be checking mine out with a magnifying glass -but at the price I got it I'm perfectly fine with it being a less old repro.
