This necklace was in a pile of ‘buy two and get one free’!. I picked out two I wanted and it would have been rude not to take my free one so I chose this. I thought it was glass but when I got it home I think it’s coral?. It’s got the imperfections and internal striations I associate with coral.
Is there a name for this type of coral or shape of beads and which decade do you think it comes from- 70s?.
    Dyed or natural?
The largest bead is c1 inch long.
I’m going to restring it as the gold is coming off the spacer beads- They look pink underneath so I will remove the gold and hopefully reuse them.
    Thankyou for looking :)

I think it is more likely they are conch shell than angel skin coral. The shade of pink is wrong for coral.

I'll hazard mid-70s for time in fashion.

As above. Seafoam green, baby blue and dusty rose were widely popular.

    I think they are 1980s.
Those gold spacers were all the rage in stone and shell jewelry. I sold it at the costume jewelry counter in mid 80s.

I'd think the length not quite right for 1980s.

Depends on when in the 80s, and all of the metal is dead on.

That makes perfect sense as they are chunky beads. Thankyou :)

Thank you! It's for the greater good, part of my campaign to end the confusion between conch shell & angel skin coral.

Thank you. And you helped make it better. :) It's useful, when an antique jewellery dealer has a perfectly lovely pink & white bacchante labeled & priced as coral, in convincing them otherwise.

I just wrote up a scheduled listing for a Victorian carved brooch that looks like a furled parasol. At first I thought it was angel skin, but it's pink on top and white on the back... and most likely conch shell all over. (sigh)

'Fraid so, but the subject is so unusual, won't be surprised if it does well even though not coral.

This is not mine, but makes me smile:

It looks like a strawberry "white chocolate" pretzel.
