Hello. I purchased this metal statue of a horse & rider while in Ethiopia a number of years ago. I purchased it from someone who presented as an antique dealer, and I was told it was an antique from Ethiopia. But, I don't have any idea whether that is accurate. I would love any help! A magnet does not stick to it. It feels relatively heavy. It is approx. 3 3/4 inches long x 4 inches tall x 3/4 inches wide. I have included photos from all sides, bottom, etc. Would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

It is lovely, carman. Definitely Ethiopian, but it may not be antique.
It looks like an Ethiopian king trampling someone with a halo. A Christian saint? I don't know if early Christians were ever persecuted in Ethiopia. It is an old Christian country.

We used to have an Ethiopian shop in our town, and they sold carvings like this. I think they were made in Axum, which has a very long history of slate and other stone carving.
If you have an Ethiopian shop or restaurant near you, you could ask them to translate the text on the bottom.

I have found a few other examples of similar pieces. They are carved stone (not metal), and come from the area of Aksum, Ethiopia. I cannot find any solid information about them.

And several on Worthpoint, with minimal information:

This one states that it is a reproduction of the "seal of Axum", a depiction of King Solomon:

They do seem to be the kind of thing that would be reproduced for sale to tourists.
