Lane serial number makes NO sense

Hi

I know about the backwards Lane serial number thing...and about the plant number.

I have a Lane Rhythm dining room table with 2 leaves. All 3 pieces have the same serial number on them. It is 560112 .

The chairs that came with it have 560250 for May 20, 1965.

I also have a hutch from the same source that has 567021 for Dec 7, 1965.

The serial number on the table and leaves makes no sense.

The only way I can reconcile it is that it was supposed to be 560121 for Dec 10, 1965 and someone just screwed it up.... three times.

Has anyone ever seen a Lane serial number that just makes no sense?

This is stamped in black ink underneath the dining table, not embossed into the wood. Did they have some kind of stamp that they just re-used all day to mark these? That could explain how 3 pieces have a totally illogical number.

Since nobody else has replied, I'm guessing that nobody knows. Or the right person just has not been here yet. I think your theory about the mixup in numbers seems plausible and could be correct.

That may be the first time anybody has ever mentioned my tag line, and used it that way. Love it!!! I'm a longime fan of the Chicago Cubs. Until the past five years or so, the sentiment would have been similar.

 

3yrs late but here I am, someone with a set of lane tables that has a style number that makes no sense, my style number is 1225-05, serial numbers on different on both tables also, cant figure out how to post a picture on here or I would

I've come across at least one other Lane piece that had a date that made no sense, so I think your explanation is the most plausible. After all, it was a human being, possibly hung over or thinking about the upcoming weekend, who had to change the backwards date in the stencil every day. Mistakes were bound to happen.

 

But Crisee's post says it's the style number that "makes no sense" not the serial number.
