Picked up this lovers knot brooch recently. I've been collecting them for little projects here and there. As to not cut it up as recommended previously I discovered the pin pushes out quite easily and can be saved, so taking the stick off was easy: We pushed out the pin and the bar across the back simply fell out.

I inserted jump rings in the holes where the pin was (again with no permanent modification) and attached them to a chain. I think I like it hanging this way.

I noticed the pin that held the bar in place is brass, I'm wondering if that has been redone or is not original?
I gave it a good polish when it arrived and the stones all look good save for that one kinda murky one on the left.

I've since restored it to brooch status by sliding the pin in, as I'm going to get a slightly different chan to cut and affix to each jump ring.

The pins were nearly always brass or steel, much stronger.

    Lovely, Abby.
    Sounds nice.
I am lazy, I just use brooch converters on my antique brooches if I want to wear them as pendants.

the older brooches have pins that stick out farther and will poke holes in clothing and it will flip vertically b/c the bar is exactly in the middle. Ive had a few pita pendants to know lol but I have some converters for my brooches that cant be turned vertical

I always wear pendants slightly higher, so antique brooches only poke holes in me, not my clothes.:hilarious:

Why not just wear it as a pin?

I may indeed wear it as a pin at times or even a hair piece
The good thing is nothing I’ve done is permanent

I recently got complimented on my necklace from a couple of strangers in an elevator when I took a tip from @kyratango & pinned a cameo brooch onto a longish strand of (artificial) pearls. As long as the clasp is secure so it doesn't open on its own, the pearl beads keep it from sliding down & falling off. You don't pin through anything; you bring the 2 hanging sides together & close the brooch across them, between the beads. Easy to show & do, less easy to put in words. Make any sense?

Afterthought: you could do the same thing with plain chain, running the pin through 2 links, just not too low down or it would tilt.

I got 3 sterling brooch converters today but they are too small for 2 of my brooches, the pin wont go through them. so the hunt continues. I had tried something similar Bronwen and stuck them through larger loops on a chain
