Went to a large flea market about 40 minutes away for the first time in several years. Today was a great day for it, warm but not oppressively so and no precipitation whatsoever. Focused on the outside vendors and found some items and even ran into a friend that attends our postcard club meetings. There was a lot of junk but some antique/vintage items to be had. Wish I would have got there a few hours earlier as the place was packed with shoppers carrying away items.

    My finds,

Almost as good as a find is the story behind it. Hubby was up to driving me around Saturday, and we visited a thrift shop I have never been to. It was really a retail-type of shop that also sold second-hand items.

They did have some jewelry, most marked $3.99. I didn't find much, just two costume pieces I liked and a sign. They said they had a barn in the back, which was really a little shed. When I walked in the shed, I saw a huge old jewelry box with a sign that said "$14.99 All." I took a quick peek, and grabbed it. The jewelry box is a mess, going into the trash, but here is the best of the contents.

This set is Harry Iskin, gold-filled

Shoe clips. The cut steel buckles have an added attachment that converts them to shoe clips, never saw anything like it.
    Retro 5 shoe clips.jpg
The brooch in the red box is Roles gold-filled.
    retro 4 pink and blue.jpg
This was labeled "lucite purse handles."

On the plate, the three floral pins are Jewelart sterling. The little bud holder pin looks like silverplate, no marks. The pin at the top right is smokey quartz and pearl, gold-filled. C pin is Trifari. Heart and key is two pins, chatelaine? style. Another big retro pin at the top.

So I grabbed the jewelry box and went back to look at the boxed items for $3.99 again. Good thing I did.

When I went back, one box had the 14k gold hoop earrings. Another box had a 14k gold rope chain with the 14k crescent moon charm and the 10k cherub charm. The ring on the plate is 10k, some junky center stone, was in the jewelry box. I spent a whooping $37 and there was some junkier, newer stuff I threw in small ziplocks and filled a craft mason jar with. The thing I love is that the items were in orginal boxes from the 40s, with that old velvet and satin linings.

Here is some thrift shop (a different one) glassware, not my forte, but the Val St. Lambert hexagon candlesticks were $5 for the pair and the Ralph Lauren Crosby hurricane candle holder was $17. I will use it as a vase. Vat St. Lambert.jpg
