Here’s what I was trying to describe. Notice in the photo below the “pinched” end of the handle. I only see this with silver plated sets. I bring this up because when I’m searching through hundreds of listings I need to quickly assess the potential that a set could be real. Observing a set with a pinched neck allows me to quickly pass it. Since this set doesn’t have the pinched neck I can continue to research for being potentially silver.

Eh, only a guess because the image was so fuzzy, it is a fairly obscure maker and pattern, but I have a piece of it somewhere (believe it's that olive spoon) - as a note, those small forks are place pieces for seafood...

Nate, I think your impression of "pinched" is always and only done with silver plated and "not pinched" is always done with sterling is possibly influenced by the ages of what you have been looking at. My mother's 1940's sterling knives (International Silver) might read to you in a picture as having something like the "pinch effect" and I have bolstered knives (and other hollow handled place pieces) from the late 1800s that are silver plated. As manufacturing evolved the change from bolstered to a more streamlined connection became more common - and the buying public also preferred a more "modern" look. Just keep that in mind as you consider your future purchases.

BTW, if I saw a picture with knives that looked like the ones you just showed I would assume they were stainless. ;)

A shame to scrap those old knives. They are usually carbon steel blades and cut better than other knives. The only problem is that the blades tend to rust if not dried properly.

I’m always a nervous wreck until items arrive... for items I’m not sure if they’re real it’s a nervous excitement. For things I know are real it’s making sure they actually arrive and don’t get lost. This week I have a few very significant purchases and the part that makes me the most nervous is when I’ve paid but I’m waiting for the seller to ship, because I have had a couple people change their mind and send me back my payment...once it’s in the mail and I have a tracking number I’m a bit more relaxed
