Featured BEAUTIFUL CARVED WOOD ORIENTAL - BRUSH POT? VASE?

Can anyone tell me about this piece? I found it at a thrift store & was amazed at the details - look at how the carver made the bowl look like a leaf curled!
But I have no idea what it was intended to be used for. If it is a brush pot, it's going to be worth a lot more than if it's a vase, but either way I can't list it without being able to describe it!

Please give dimensions and post pic of the bottom. At first glance, looking primarily at the level of definition and the various repeated grooves, I'm tempted to say it is what I call a production piece.

 

I have that wood on a couple of tourist carvings.....
put a glass container in it...and call it a vase..

 

It is Chinese, an attractive group, but lacking true quality. I'd say made for export.
Since it is wood, both a brush pot and a vase would need a glass liner.

 

I'd throw some synthetic grasses or bamboo in it, sit it in a corner, and call it a day.
