I was wondering if anybody knew if this dress is new or an older piece from the 50's.
look at the material and stitching and lace. I'm no expert on this, doesn't have that vintage smell.

    Thank You

Looks like an inexpensive dance costume. If it's polyester, going to be newer. Say 1970s on but yours looks new-ish. Widely available. (And Mexicans don't cha cha although Cubans do.)

Not for the cha cha which is of Cuban origin. With the white-green-red colors (like the Mexican flag) it might have been made to be worn during a Mexican "national day" or other cultural heritage event, though.

I'm pretty sure that's machine stitching, but not necessarily brand new either.

I have seen very similar dresses sold by street vendors in Mexican town market areas as recently as last winter, probably aimed at the tourist market.

Does share the colors of the Italian flag but it's Mexican. A tricolor folklórico dress typically worn to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. They can be quite elaborate. Here's one for sale on Olvera Street in Los Angeles.
