I got this thing today and tested for sterling, stone scratch test came back positive and also did a scratch test on piece itself both with 18k gold acid test liquid.
The faux stone seems to be man made I think like acrylic or something, not sure if I'm 100% correct.
Any ideas on where this came from or an artist ?

    Thank You

I guess I understand why you say "bolo tie," but that "spring" on the back looks out of place for that kind of use.

    That's a monster!
I'm not a rock expert, but my first guess is an agate slice. Or you could be right, it's faux something or another.
And it looks like wire wrapped on steroids.
I wonder if the metal is silver...? It's sure bright and shiny in the scratched up spot.

With the string going through the piece won't pop out. I pulled string out to see if any markings, I also removed glued on piece to see if any markings, it was originally made as a bolo tie. 087.JPG 088.JPG 089.JPG 090.JPG

Thanks Laura. Metal wrap on steroids, I like that quote. The metal is sterling silver, I'm not an expert but not an amatuer either. I've been testing jewelry for about 12 years now. 095.JPG

I need to learn how to do that.

The stone looks like a Montana agate with a backing of some kind of resin.

I thought the back was tarnished silver. Better get Billy to clarify.

It;s been a long days and eyes don't want to work.Looking again the stone is mounted in a silver bezel "cup" and the stone was covered with resin like many pieces of "resin jewelry",then shaped and polished.

    Hi,
Billy, there should be some way to test for sterling without the deep scratches left on the back of the piece. I just hate pieces with scratches and gouges where someone has "tested" for silver.

Thanks Greg. I know what you mean but it was free for me.
