KOT - Grateful for your service.
My family - Dad decorated in Army during WWII; step-dad - AF Korean war; BIL - ret'd colonel AF; nephew ret'd AF; nephew in law about to retire from AF Lt col; husband was Army reserve. Considered it myself after grad school, but didn't make the commitment
Each one someone you could depend on, even when disagreed with them on politics.
I still believe that our country (U.S.A.) should have mandatory service, whether military or local Vista type, for all.

That sounds like a good idea to me too. The Israelis do it; you serve two years in something after high school. For them it's military, but I would vote for the public service outfits too. It's not the same, but it would let those who are "differently abled" do something too.

My Uncle John served in the Merchant Marine on convoy duty WWII in the Atlantic...in the engine rooms.
When a ship was hit those guys generally didn't get out. :(
He came home. They were not paid hazardous duty pay. :(
My Uncle Richie - Air Force Korean War.
My youngest son....USN nuclear technician on submarines. Now out and has progressed to the nuclear science training and facility testing muckity muck for TVA Tennessee and sometimes other nuclear plants. :)
