Good day, I am new to this forum and was hoping to get some advice regarding a chalice that has English Royal connection and does not come up often for sale. I will like to know how to best price and sell it and/or should I hold on to it for longer. Please see pictures and thanking everyone in advance who responds.

If you google aurum 1981 chalice you'll find a recent auction result, and one for sale on the first page of results.

I personally don't see it as anything special, just one of the many many commemorative items issued for the event.

    Hi Kronos,

Thank you for your reply. Actually the one that sold on Catawiki was me; I must admit. I believe I paid too much and now trying to price it in the market to atleast get back some of my money.

Even though you do not think much of it, what would you say could be a fair price for resale?

You are probably at the top end of value at the moment. What you could do is wait for Charles to pass (morbid, I know), and take advantage of the brief surge of interest in items related to him and Diana.

You could also always just stick it on ebay for a bit above what you have in it, accept offers, and see what you get. Like you said, it isn't too common, so you have that going for it at least.

Yes it does sound morbid, but I get your point. I was think as it is Diana's 20th passing that the interest would be there, but seems not.

Thank you again for your replies, much appreciated.

How does the sold price on eBay compare to the price you got for yours on Catawiki? I didn't come across your sold item in Google search.

I would think the Renaissance Fair /Goth crowd would be all over this, they love themselves some dragons! Personally,I think its beautiful, and since the world still loves Diana theres got to be some sort of market out there. Sometimes you just have to sit on some stuff for a while.

Hi Johnny, someone tried offering 100 euros and someone else 200 euros, so I am guessing they have buyers and are looking to get it cheap.

I think if I can get it to the right market it will sell well, but as I'm still getting familiar with antiques, it's going to take sometime. I mostlikely will take it down and hold on to it either for 4 more years when it's their 40th anniversary or as Kronos indicated when Charles passes, ride the memorabilia wave.

Bear in mind that a "Royal connection" won't affect value unless it came from, or belonged to, a Royal.

Ahhh ok, didn't think of that. But will the price of silver affect it and should I put it more as a silver object instead of antique?

Maximum scrap price atm would be around $230. It would not be considered antique, being from 1981.

Ok, that is even less than what the other chalice sold for, so I think I will take it down and just hold on to it. Also thank you for the correct, I will stick to collectors item or memorabilia :)

That is for the silver alone, if melted, and is based on a spot silver price of a little under $17. I believe there is some value beyond that.

I have only one piece of royal memorabilia, the limited edition Christies "Dresses" catalog that was signed by Diana on June 27, 1997. I thought about selling it now based on timing but believe that Princess Diana's memories are timeless and see it only increasing in value. This is the leather catalog that was limited to 250 signed copies.

One of the very few Diana or royal items that actually has real value.

Try any of the dresses from this auction if you want real value
