    Hi all!
I'm not very experienced in researching marks on gold, and could use some help figuring out what this mark is ... mainly as a tool to narrow down the age of this cane. Maybe even the style of lettering on the monogram could offer a hint.

As for the maker mark ... I first saw what I thought was an anchor with (something) in front of it ... but I'm not finding a jeweler/goldsmith that uses a mark like it - searched through Lang Antiques Makers Marks, and through my book of Old Silver with no luck (was only looking through American makers since I don't know who else would use a stand alone 14K )

Photographing this was a challenge because it involved wedging the camera between the shaft and the end of the tip - up in the curve of the hook.

What else could this mark be?

actually, now that I see this in print ... it looks a little like a horse head

Perhaps a "seahorse" or hippo-campus. One of the romantic notion ones with an actual horse head on a fish body in front of an anchor?

Thanks for looking, Holly! Yes, I see that from some angles too - hadn't seen it at all until I posted the pic here though.

I've run across a long thread in the forums at 925-100.com that shows many ads for canes, umbrellas, whips, etc... Maybe I'll locate a similar mark (fingers crossed)
