Bakelite or not?

 

Have you tested it? If not Google tests for Bakelite and give it a try

 

Not yet, I'll try the soda test later. Seems like the beads were restrung as the present round spacers could have not left the scars around the holes.

 

That's likely. The findings and clasp on this are brand stinkin' new, as I generally put it. The beads could be bakelite; I have similar ones that are. The reds don't oxidize like most other colors and don't test chemically all that well half the time. I'd use the baking soda test near the bead holes and see what happens. (Dunk a damp q tip in some baking soda and rub. With any luck the q tip will turn yellow or brown. If you do it near your nose and take a good whiff, you may smell formaldehyde if it's bakelite. They could also be a good grade of faux amber acrylic from India. I've seen it go both ways.

 

Well, it does not turned yellow but red. So, not bakelite but dyed whatever it is.

 

Definitely not bakelite.

 

I'd venture to guess dyed coral but by no means am I an authority on this, just my guess
