Thank you! I was only able to find one other example of a saphiret belt online. Here's hoping it will do well at auction!

They're definitely crosses. Perhaps a bit of a Gothic flair. I'm curious to know what country this belt was originally from.

Dunno what day of this sale. Not listed anywhere. Tons of junk costume. Dude said that someone found a Tiffany dragonfly brooch the other day. Shakers two dollars a pair. 950 001.JPG 950 003.JPG 950 002.JPG
Gotta wunner what they found when they left stuff like this.

@Barn Owl - That is an outstanding find!!! Are you going to consign it to an auction house or sell it on-line yourself?

I know @Any Jewelry was having computer issues earlier today, but maybe by tomorrow, she will have them fixed & can help you with the possible origin of the belt.

How big are the actual stones?

Holy guacamole. Those are Japanese Mon on the sides, and odds on those are Japanese shakers too. They're know to use the 950 grade silver on the better pieces. OTOH they could be Mexican or Israeli out to fool us. OTOH for two bucks I wouldn't worry about it much.

why would 950 be marked as sterling ?
    for export?

It means it's at least sterling.

Gorgeous, Barn. It looks like an Orientalist design, so Western made, but inspired by Middle Eastern or North African art. Maybe even made in Czechoslovakia?

Thank you! I've seen some Czechoslovakian pieces before that have been inspired by North African design, so that makes sense.

Sorry, the words North African trigger a story, I have to tell you what I saw in an antique mall yesterday. There was a wooden trinket tray that was marked "Hand-carved African Tray." I turn it over, and there is a "Made in China" gold and black label. At least remove the "Made in China" labels from your stuff if you are trying to pawn it off as something else.

New addition to my belt collection. I found similarly carved turquoise described as being Iranian from the Qajar dynasty, and two similar albeit less ornate belts described as Egyptian or Ottoman and Bedouin. The arrangement of turquoise cabochons was similar to a Balkan turban pin I had found as well. I suspect Ottoman.
