Someone was moving and offered me choice of some of their furniture. I saw this and had to have it. I know nothing about it, aside from I adore its style. Its just lovely. I like the legs best. Right now its mostly decor as I'm afraid to sit on it. It looks in very good shape, but i'm not. Heh. So does anyone happen to have any ideas on it?

It's been refinished and reupholstered, so it's probably safe to sit on.

Transitional from renaissance revival to Eastlake. Circa 1880. Usually, these were walnut but the wood on yours looks a bit off for walnut.

I'd say 1885-90 and walnut, but yeah, transitional Renaissance Revival to Eastlake. Very nice, probably part of a multiple-piece parlor set that would also have included armchairs, a sofa, and possibly a settee.

Ooooo, too bad I don't have the whole set. I would love it. I got a few other old pieces from the woman, but this one is in the best shape. A couple embroidered seat chairs, but they are in poor condition, her cats well used them. Been using them as little bedside surfaces. a place to set the phone, book I was reading, ect.

Thank you for the information. Nice to know the age/era i have a love of old things but not much knowledge
