image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Hope you all aren't getting tired of trying to guess these names. This one, I hold close to me. It's the first and only painting that I've went out on a limb and spent more than what an average person would of paid for it. I had bought alot of things from this store owner and had never seen this painting. They had rearranged their store, and while doing so, the realized this painting had no price on it. I had caught this painting from the corner of my eye and was instantly hypnotized. I was drawn to it by some strange force, I loved it. I turned it around to look for the price tag, there was none. I asked the store owner what it was worth and he said that the guy who had consigned it had passed away and there for, he wasn't able to price it. The store owner wanted to do some research on it before deciding to sell it.He couldn't come up with anything, due to the signature. He did mention that the previous owner of the painting had traveled internationally and was very executive. He showed me a porcelain figure from China that is VERY old and said that the guy who had the painting, had received the porcelain figure from a Chinese government official.

My wife almost kicked my butt when I told her I paid $700 for this painting. Go big or go home! Anyways, I BIG chance on something maybe not worth that. To me, I felt it was worth every penny.

About the painting: I can't make out the signature. On the reverso, I have made out the word "Robertson". Above that, are some numbers and also below it. At the right upper corner is written 8000 ?????

Signature looks like 'Tyson' to me.

That's what I first thought but really couldn't find anyone with this style.

Any ideas on what is after the 8000? To me, it appears to be a title since El means "The". I think I'm going to pay $150 to get it appraised or see if Sotheby's or Christies may think of it.

From the frame and that dark green background, I'm getting a 50s/60s vibe. I can't make out anything different than others have suggested for the sig.

I like it too, but don't know a thing about abstract art. It's worth what someone's willing to pay.

I know, so do I. My thinking was, someone took their time, energy and imagination to create this. On top of that, the framing goes well with the primary colors of the painting, the frame makes the painting stand out. I know some artist know how to bring their art alive by doing so. With everything about this painting, I felt it was worth it. I feel like someone who knows about art, created this. Only an artist creativity can bring all elements together to create something so lovely. Hopefully I didn't go to far with that last statement.

I see Tzen as well but wonder if it might be Tzsor or similar. The writing on the back is tough. I see 8000 El M????? . Could be an address? Often, you get framing notations, names, and addresses related to owners written on the backs of paintings.

This is a painting I would spend the $150 on to get appraised. That may seem reckless based off of not knowing the name of the artist but that's why appraisers get paid. Atleast I will get some peace of mind knowing if it's worth more than I paid or not.

    Armando,

Since you like it and it "speaks" to you, I think that is also worth something. I do like it myself.

Is there something I can use to help bring out the hard to see letters on the back of the painting?

You could try turning the images into black and white and boosting the contrast. Sometimes reversing color helps too.

For what it's worth, the second I saw this, before I read anything you wrote, I thought it was a great painting worth some money.

"I felt it was worth it."

That's all that matters...whether or not the market agrees with you.

Ok, I've took a picture at an angle of the verso. I did that, because it's easier to see some of the writing. It appears that someone tried wiping away the information on the reverse or something had spilled on the back and they tried to clean it, at the same time wiping off the letters. I did some contrasting of the picture. You can see where the S O N of Robertson is. Looking at it face on, you can't see the O and N though. It appears to me that the end of the line below that looks like a Y with a fancy curve that goes North. Beside what looks like a Y, on the side, it looks like a N. I say this because the N on Robertson looks slanted like the possible one below it. I've looked at this for so long last night, I think I went cross eyed.

What I think I've come up with is:

    24047
    Robertson

Hi there. I know this is super old but I found a painting by the same signature/artist. Looks like Tzen to me. I loved it immediately and paid $85 for it. Did you find out the artists name or any other information?
