The recipient of this trinket box had better be a stamp collector or the conversation could go along the lines ….

No dear I'm not suggesting you are as old and ugly as Queen Victoria …... I mean you're beautiful not ugly dear.

No dear you're not as fat as her …. I mean you trim and beautiful dear

No dear I'm not suggesting you should be murdered, stuffed in a trunk and posted to India.

    What's that dear??

There had better be a diamond necklace to go in it next time????

    Yes dear.

A crazed trinket box with a stamp on top and a heart clasp for $6 at the local antique/junk dealers. Just had to buy it for the curiosity if nothing else. Not sure if it is a trinket box as I've seen smaller kinds of things that were for holding spare stamps etc but it has got this heart on the front and it is a lot bigger. No makers marks anywhere and it looks like it was transfer printed. Size 10.2cm x 10.5cm x 8cm and 0.5kg. Any ideas of era/age? Seen one before??

    Cheers
    Stephen

Maybe to hold a spongy stamp dampener?

(If made to hold stamps, the shape of that inside rim would be odd. But then, why a heart on a stamp dampener?)

Neat box as a philatelist and glass person I would likely have bought it also. I suspect the clasp is what was on hand not designed for the box. I can see a bunch of the old style hinges in it.

Stamp boxes were usually sloped inside to allow easy removal of a stamp.
I think yours may be just a trinket box.
British East Africa is now roughly present day Kenya.

I think I promised the judge that I wouldn't engage in public philately anymore.
