Porcelain or ceramic shell never seen before

I was searching and searching. Was wondering if this thing is a handmade ceramic or porcelain shell or a real one, I got it at an estate sale last week. I can hear the ocean in it, feels strange, not sure if it's a real shell or handmade, any ideas ? The lady I got it from said it was old, was she right ? She was probably in her 80's or so.

 

That's a Nautilus though I'd be shocked to learn it could possibly be real.
I'd say 40s-50s with those colors.

 

So it was made by hand then ?

 

I'd say yes and damaged.

I was thinking more California pottery. Pity its chipped,its kinda cool.

I know, I didn't realize it was chipped till after I got it home, oh well, only 25 cents wasted.

...like it...take it to a big antiques show and there is usually someone there who grinds down such issues on glass to smooth it out.
Maybe this can be too.

 

This is a regal murex. It's real shell. They range from Baja down to Peru. I'm showing it just because its the same color combination as on your piece.

 

I might be able to grind it down on my own, I'm pretty handy.

It could be the inspiration that led to your piece. It could define the region where yours originated, though it's a pretty wide net.

 

Wear a really good mask and a face shield not just goggles.
