#1 is on the base of a Golfing trophy tankard inscribed with the date 1960 Balikpapan, Island of Borneo.
It may be silver or plated, acid test says silver.

#2 Is also the base of a golfing trophy tankard, same date and place.
    Also tests positive for silver.
I`ve not filed the metal to do a deeper test yet.

With the 90 on the first, I vote plated. Can't help you on the second.

Yes there are 2, my father was 'un homme d'affaires', meaning businessman, or entrepreneur for entrepreneur, would not count on this source for vocabulary or French terms....Sorry.

P.S. The 90 mark is probably meant to show 900/1000 grade, some Asian metal smiths wrote what they felt was right for the Westerners.

Indonesian marking was standardized during the VOC (Dutch East India Company) and Dutch colonial period, starting november 22nd 1667. Silver trade was important, and the Dutch had to be sure they got value for money. Indonesian nobility, who had always been more interested in gold, followed the Dutch fashion and appreciation of good silver. Indonesian nobility still ruled most of the country, and they didn't like being fooled either.
It took some time after Indonesian independence in 1949 to 'Indonesianize' everything, schoolbooks, for instance, were still in Dutch in the 1960s.
This could be a pre-independence mark used after independence, but I am not familiar with Balikpapan marks before or after. It is almost impossible to find information on Indonesian silver marks other than Javanese (modern silver is usually sterling and marked 925).
Indonesia before and after independence used 3 digits for silver, in the cases where numerical marking was used. This would be 900, not 90.
The actual mark looks upside down to me, could it be the other way around, with 06 (or 90) the number of the design?

    Thanks AJ,
I at first thought it might be a 6 and just a makers mark rather than a purity mark.
I have 5 tankards from Indonesia and one from Manilla
I will have to do a file silver test.

Anyhow, I`m catching up with you now I`ve found this in the house.:D:D:D

One of the sons was born in Amsterdam and now lives in Singapore and married to an Irish girl.
The other son was born in Indonesia and now lives in Sydney and married to a French girl.
Their mother lived less than 1km away from me.

The really amazing thing is, we have never met before nor do we know each other but he works with my sister in law at one of the RSL clubs in the western suburbs where I used to live.
    Small world eh !

Where did you live in the western suburbs? I used to live in St Ives, North Shore.

Nice kamus.:) By the way, Indonesian spelling changed in the 70s. If you want info how, just ask.

I started in Dharruk near St Mary`s, then moved to Richmond.
I came home the day after 9/11.
My wife is still there, we never divorced.

So what is wrong with that - if you are going to have that kind of negative quote about a whole population based on language, and inaccurate at that, which is relevant to my own culture and ethnicity, then I will comment on it. If it's a joke, its not funny for some of us. Just saying.

"A good indignation , brings out all ones powers.!" Agree.

    @toomanytocount

It is a quote by George Bush.
It proves how ignorant he was, of course the French have a word for entrepreneur, its a French word.

Don't get your knickers in a twist....I never said there was anything wrong with your post...
I just pointed out , to a new member , that some or us carry quotes or sayings that appear on every post we make & have no relation to the thread as a whole.

& as Davey points out , it's a quote from a former President of the United States of America.....so yes...in that context ...it is indeed humorous !

I remember the French liked it, they liked any signs of Bush's ignorance, on any subject.

@daveydempsey should you, on the off chance, ever come across a Madurese dictionary for a fair price, I would be interested. Madurese-any language. Could also be spelled Madoerees or Madoereesch.

This is so out of context, who knows how many years ago it mattered to a few in the world, what George Bush had to say and about what. A decade or more?
Not everybody on this board would understand and they would see it as a slur against the French....you are all missing that specific point.

It's your right to say whatever you want, if a member voices another point of view, that means there is likely more than one person that is not agreable to this.

Sorry I spoke up now, obviously, we are living under different perceptions. Lesson learned.

I do. Many Europeans, not just the French, still enjoy quoting him. Silly, I know, but true. And I agree, Europeans are a few compared to most other continents, just 508 million in the EU in 2015, but happily we seem to matter to some people.:)
