I don't know what I found today at the little flea market down the road.....

It looks like an St. George and the dragon Australian sovereign, but the same image is on both sides. It was the color of the chain until I cleaned it gently with silver polish and a silver polishing cloth. It doesn't test as gold or silver; it seems to have a slightly rosy hue, maybe bronze?

I paid $10, I fell in love with it just for the beauty of the design; I will be putting it on another chain and wearing it .

Do you think it is some type of commemorative medallion? I can't find anything like it on the internet, searched for hours.....the bale seems to be soldered on, a different type of metal.

And what forum should I post it on looking for any extra help? Thanks, you guys.

 

I also found these.... paid a little more than I wanted to for the cufflinks, $15, but I haven't seen another pair on the internet yet. They were made by Gemsco; the company made/makes military jewelry. They are Navy Master Chief Diving emblems.

Thanks Marko...not sure on your medal but it does look like backside of the sovereign like you said.

 

Sort of.... the same design, Saint George and the Dragon, is on both sides of the coin/medallion....no other monarch, just Saint George and his dragon.

 

It looks like two coin backs soldered together. It may have been made from 2 Chinese fakes.

Good idea, Terry. Unusual the one has outside ridges and one is smooth. I think maybe older than Chinese fakes, but fakes for sure.... just because of the chain, maybe.

I do think Gemsco put these out.... probably soldered cufflink back to their military emblems in the factory. Gregg, when they go for sale I will let you know first!

The cuff links are brass/gold colored? If they are they would officers cuff links,enlisted are silver.Silver links with the square knot is Master Diver which any enlisted ranks could have.

The lady I purchased them from was at least 80. She said she took care of the gentleman who owned them for three years.... maybe they date to WWII.

 

I had a very good night at the auction on Friday night. One of the estates we got in this week was from the estate of a woman who never met a piece of Lenox Holiday, Fitz & Floyd, art glass or anything with a leopard on it that she didn't like & buy. The family is packing it up because if they didn't they would not make any money. This week we got just the contents of the dining room & it constituted about 80% of what was put out to sell that night.

Here are my goodies I bought.


11 NIB Lenox ornaments.


Assorted items from a shelf lot. 6 items will be going to a local consignment shop that should make me back more than I paid for the whole lot.


Assorted items from a box lot. The 3 pieces in the back are 60's Swedish glass psychedelic mushrooms.


Assorted Wilton Armetale & Arthur Court metal ware. The leopard tray is the prize in this lot.


4 assorted pieces of Fitz & Floyd.


2 very early Andrea Sadek figurines.


2 MCM Alfredo Barbini Murano figurines.


Box lot of unused vintage linen. The 2 on the lower left are Madeira Organdy cocktail napkins & the ones in the center are a total of 24 Madeira embroidered linen cocktail napkins. The ones on the right are simply marked made in France & are dinner napkins with gold embroidered corners.

 

Wowser, Beryl!!!! I live in Atlantic County, NJ. The Lenox plant was in Pomona, and my aunt worked there as a supervisor for many years. She was a quality inspector. The older made in the USA Lenox is extremely popular here. My aunt could get anything made there half-priced. My big, huge regret is that I didn't buy more Autumn pattern pieces. I do have a vase and some Autumn jewelry. I actually visited the plant and saw pieces of the Presidental china Nancy Reagan commissioned and had made for the White House.

I am a nut for vintage linens- those are fabulous!!!!

 

Dang. Hindsight is 20/20, or 24 karat gold-rimmed?

The cuff links are no older than late 1969.The design was adopted 6 June 1969 by BuPers notice 1020.
