McCoy Stump Planter - A Couple Questions

Picked it up this morning for 2 bucks - my only purchase from either of the 2 sales I went to. :( It was easy to find several on eBay (in various colors) and a few sellers ascribed a 1955 date. So my first question is whether 1955 is correct.

But one thing no one showed or mentioned in the listing description is this capital A on the inside on the bottom of the planter well. (Shown in the second picture) Some of the listings had pictures of the interior, but I saw no letters. Does that mean anything to anyone?

Finally, and just out of curiosity, does anyone know who the ST and VH initials around the "loves" symbol were?

    Thanks!

There's one in Sanford's that has Ted and Ann instead of initials. No explanation.
It also gives the date of 1955.

This is from McCoy Pottery Warman's Companion. They sort of missed on their color description.

These are the marks from the time period from my McCoy Pottery Collector's Reference by Nissen, Hanson & Hanson. These are marks from the period. For whatever reason yours seems to be missing the first "c" or maybe it just didn't photograph well.

I saw a few on eBay with the Ted and Anne names too. But thanks for the dare confirmation!

Thanks for pointing out that "missing c." I hadn't noticed it. I wonder what that means - although it's not a big deal at 2 bucks.

Maybe they had a modified logo for small places.

I just checked the others on eBay. All of those that show the mark are missing the "c" - both ST-VH and Ted-Anne.

You might want to give the McCoy Pottery Facebook page a shot. Those folks know their stuff. If Chiquita doesn't know nobody knows.

I'm back! I posted the following on the McCoy Pottery Facebook page:

"A person on one of the other boards I hang out at (antiquers.com) has a question about the stump planter. She wanted to know who Ted and Anne were and also ST and VH. She also asked about the missing "c" in the McCoy mark and the dates of production. I told her to ask here but she's not on Facebook. Can anyone give me some info I can relay back to her? Thanks!"

I received a reply from Chiquita Prestwood who probably knows more about McCoy than anybody. Her response was as follows:

"No one knows who the initials or names are. I checked a while back on what employee records I have and nothing matched. Mark is just one of those things they did."

Many of the McCoy folks are kind and helpful. Just don't get in their way if a really rare piece comes up for bid!
