Hi i have a 12 inch tall satsuma vase. Its cobalt blue. It is marked at the bottom.
It has been repaired in a small place using gold.

“golden joinery,” Kintsugi (or Kintsukuroi, which means “golden repair”) is the centuries-old Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with a special lacquer dusted with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Beautiful seams of gold glint in the cracks of ceramic ware, giving a unique appearance to the pottery and the Japanese then believe it to be valuable as the pottery been broken and repaired adds to beauty"

It is old. You can feel the ripples in the vase were he or she originally moulded the vase.
I have some marks at the bottom and by my understanding they are of a family name saying either, Oshibe, Osabe or Osube.

I know most people with that name originate in the hyogo prefecture.

The really interesting thing i have found out is that there is a pattern on the side of the vase. Turns out this isn't a pattern but a Japanese family crest. ( same as a coat of arms in Europe).

I think the crest/flower is "gouri ni umbachi" ( plum flower). But it could also be "gouri ni kikyo"( bell flower)

I think this is made close to the kinki and kitakyusha areas but not sure what family uses this crest.

Any help really appreciated. I will attach pictures in the next message.
    Thanks in advance

Also the picture on the other side is a male dressed in black kneeling before a women dressed in red. Pretty sure a man kneeling before a women in japan was pretty much unheard off.

And the fact hes dressed in black makes me think he was an official.

It looks like the standing lady has just gotten up to do something. There may not be a context where it is important for anyone to lower themselves to anyone else.
It would be nice if you could find which family the 'mon' (crest) belongs to. Nearly everyone in Japan has a mon, so you have a task ahead of you. Did you see this site:

    Maybe @nokita knows?

Understood, I'm new to all of this. I am pretty sure it is the oshibe family name. Other than that I'm stuck. This is the only piece i can find that's been repaired with gold also. Does that mean its old or new?

I know the crest is most likely the plum flower crest.

Edit: By the way, the standing woman looks (to me) like she's rebuking a proposal....just my humble opinion.....:) which may not go with traditions on the vase.....

Thanks that's great ill do it that way next time. By saying she is rebuking a proposal and that this does not go with the traditions of the vase can you explain a bit more? Thanks

I don't think it's a fake just not much older than the 1930's or so. That cobalt rim decoration was quite popular at that time.
