Beautiful old quilt but badly worn...is it of any value?

Just credit me as quilt historian Leigh Fellner Harris.

The quilt linked to above is unlike OP's quilt in several ways that directly affect its value: condition, detail (note the central wreath and corner palm leaf blocks), and provenance - it's even inked with the maker's name and date. (It's also not technically an album quilt, but no matter.) Quilters are nuts, in a way I find almost creepy, for provenance; it's a women's field, and collectors are all touchy-feely romantic about being able to "sense the maker's presence," etc. ad nauseam to the point where stains are misinterpreted as "tears" or "blood," I kid you not. So always get what info you can from the seller about the maker. Do a genealogy if you can. Rather pathetically, it can boost the sale price significantly.

Thanks for that lesson Leigh...LOL...!!! :)

I know nothing about quilts other than I have one on my bed and one in the closet .

That quilt appears to be in much better condition than mine. And, as 6rivets points out, their quilt has provenance that mine does not.

On the other hand, I was going to start mine at $34.99, not $400:)

Since I picked mine up at a church rummage sale, I won't be able to find out any more about it.

Thank you very much, Leigh, for your information and for allowing me to quote you and give your name.

    maybe $35 is a bit low....in any case !

I just this minute listed it with a start price of $44.99. It doesn't start until 8 pm so I can still change it if you think the quilt merits a higher start. I am open to suggestions as I was very torn on what to start it at.

Gosh... never say 'torn' when talking about fabric.

I think that I'd be happy with that outcome. Better than nada, eh?

Oh, yes, a pretty good return on my investment. I am happy with it.

Pheasant: never think about the number of watchers. People watch auctions because they are rooting for you, because it's educational, because they've never seen such a widget before, etc., etc. Planning to bid is way down on the list. :)

Fine result; it's a study piece, not a collector.

6rivets, Somewhere there is a post about a drawstring bag/purse.
Could you take a look at it if you can find it?
