or at least Plant People! Featuring a 1953 booklet "How To Grow and Bloom African Violets at Home" put out by "Green Thumb." 24 pages of detailed and comically illustrated instructions on all aspects of African Violet culture. Brought this home when we were cleaning out Mom's house, thinking I would someday get around to using it. It surfaced this weekend while trolling the bookshelves for Goodwill donations. It almost went into the box, but I decided to offer it up here first. True GIVEAWAY!! I'll pay postage to anyone, anywhere.

And if you want it, I will also throw in the Early Spring 1996 edition of Country Home magazine's "Country Gardens." Feature articles on "Antique" Roses, scented geraniums for the windowsill and herb gardens step-by-step.

If more than of you are interested, I'll draw a name on Friday, July 21st about noon Pacific Time.

    Hi,
I usually grow just about anything but AFRICAN VIOLETS. Every time I buy one, it blooms only once and then dies on me. I have read every thing I can on them but always the same result.

Greg...I can fully sympathize.....I can overwinter dahlias and tuberous begonias with success, but grow african violets? Nope!

Like you, I love them too, but they don't like me......

    BTW....love those mushrooms!

Actually, I do not own, nor have I ever owned, a white sofa. And aside from some unfinished bookcases, a sofa and love seat are the pieces of furniture I have ever purchased......................everything else has come from one family home/attic or another................

Back to violets and their publications with a mea culpa......................

    Lord, can't YOU stop me????????????

I am most proud of the fact that I have managed to keep the orchid my youngest son gave me for Mothers Day alive for over 2 months now. :smug::smug::smug::smug::smug::smug: :D:D

I have also managed to get my lemon tree that I have had for almost 2 years to bear fruit this summer, although I have not picked any as of yet. I thought it was a goner for sure last winter. I had moved it into the garage because we were suppose to get a frost overnight one night & it ended up staying in there for several weeks.

One day it got up into the high 50's & was sunny so I moved it closer towards the door to give it a good watering. Later that day I forgot all about the location of the plant & hit the garage door button. It came down slap in the middle & broke of a nice big branch. :arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh:

    Hi Mansons,
My 20 yr old white sofa was the newest thing in my house. All of the rest of it was been handed down or bought at yard sales. My neighbors all think they are seeing wonderful valuable antiques.:rolleyes::rolleyes:. If they knew I paid 12 dollars for my dining room set of table and 8 chairs they would faint. My PC chair was a desk chair off the USS United States liner. My kitchen set was dated 1937 stenciled under the chairs. Enamel top table and four chairs were painted a very hot pink when I found them
    for 5 bucks.

  16. this chat brought back nice memories of my Dad! He could grow AV. Even had mail order special varieties. Always had them in an east facing window in our living room on a special table my husband made him. That was 33 years ago. I tried to keep them growing after he passed but I definately didn't have the touch.

    Thanks for the memories. Roxane

One last bump to see if there is anyone else who's interested. The only 2 who have registered, as far as I can tell, are Bercrystal and Gregsglass.

Drawing to select the recipient is tomorrow, July 21st!

Her is the "mistreated" lemon tree & the "surviving" orchid. :D:D:D

I may post the orchid out in the general board because I have some questions & I think there is some one who grows them who is a regular.:happy::happy:

Pardon the hijack of your post Susan. :):) I thought being a lover of plants you would not mind too much. ;):D:D:D

    No problem, Peggy!

My clock just struck 12 here in the wild west and I flipped my lucky 1847 One Cent coin. Had already assigned "heads" to Peggy and "tails" to Greg since that was the order in which they asked to be considered.

HEADS!! It's yours, Peggy! Do you want the magazine too? (I already have your contact info. ;))
