What about the rhinestone necklace? Are they just of no value/interest anymore because they are so numerous and use cheaper materials? Trying to learn about such things...

 

Cluttered and Evelyb -- thank you so much for your help. What my cousin's daughters don't want, the rest will either be job-lotted on a local internet sale site or donated to a thrift. Thanks for the link to the Etsy compacts. Looks like it might be worth the effort to put it in my Etsy "store" (I have a few pieces languishing there, LOL!).

That depends on the necklace. Plain "white" rhinestones with no signature don't sell well, if they sell at all. There were too many made. On the other hand, if there's a known maker it's a whole different ballgame. Pre-WWII Trifari goes for serious money, for instance. Muticolored D&E pieces, never actually signed, sell for real money too. Plain white 50s and later rhinestone? Not so much.
