indian brass head

    Can anyone help me identify this head? It is possibly made from brass but not sure when it was made or it's use.

    There is a tag on the back that says "483050 India".

    Please educate me, thank you!

    You're right, except it is missing the stabbing part. It is called a pata. This is a complete pata, made of steel, southern Indian:

    Azizu, yours was made by the Dhokra people in northeast India. The Dhokra are to be found in most of India, but this particular lost wax cast bronze style is native to the Damar Dhokra in the northeast. It is a very tribal style.

    The Rajput states, in the northwest, would have had much more sophisticated patas, more like the one pictured above, from southern India.
