Found this today and it's so darned cute. 31" tall. It has glass front shelves with a mirror in the middle on the top. A door and two drawers underneath. When you open the door, a little bread board or cutting board slides out. What do you think - is it a salesman sample or a toy? I'm guessing 1930s, but I'll take suggestions.

It appears to be real cute but I only got one picture, can everyone else see the whole thing? .. Joy.

Here is my problem. I see cute stuff and really don't have anyplace to put it, but I like it. This thing is kind of heavy so I'll probably have to sell on Craig's list. Can't imagine how I'd ship it.

I'm not sure which way that goes. It looks like a high quality toy or a middle quality sample. Given the time this would have been made, I'd guess salesman's sample rather than a toy.

I vote for toy. Can you imagine some poor salesman carrying this thing around?

I'm going to ask one of my friends who does shows if they'll try and sell it for me.

Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy out of my field but i vote along with Bakersgma, toy. It's just to big for a salesman to lug around

Toy and think your date of circa 1930 about right.

Toy and made by a father or whatever. There's a lot of mythical salesmen's samples out there: most were not.

I've found a bunch of them now that I know it's called a Step Back cabinet. They are all listed as child's toys and the price range is still all over the place.

Most are in the $150-$175 range, but I saw one purported to be from the 1880s listed for over $2,000.
