Rolling pins I know nothing about, except some I really like.

I got this guy last night after watching him get bounced around the auction for a couple weeks.

How old is he and what's it used for with the design only on one side?
    What type of wood?

Just curious but . . . what is the circumference of the rolling pin in the middle?
Is there any (even small) difference in the circumference of the "rolling" part from one end to the other?

I am really stymied by the three small cut-outs on the one end in your last photo.

This one...'tis a puzzlement. Cookie mold rollers would have designs cut all the way around. I usually know these, but this roller is...odd.

Looks too small to be a ravioli/pirogi dough cutter but I can't (en)vision it for anything else?? Maybe a home made dough cutter for whatever the person wanted it for?
After closer look I think it was just made to be a decorative item!

Its 7" around on both sides and in the middle

Did they make decorative rolling pins along time ago?

Well we will never know who THEY are, but many a person would just engrave things into objects their wives would just throw out.
I'm sure this was not used as a dough cutter.
With the carvings into it that you don't really show it might be an Eskimo piece.

Maybe it comes from a place where there was a communal oven, so your pie had to look different to everyone elses?
