simmons armoire.JPG I am hoping someone here can help me by providing any information. I recently bought a Simmons (still has manufacturer sticker in a drawer) armoire/dresser. I have been poking around online to find any information and cannot seem to find one that looks the same as the the one I bought. I am almost positive it that is has been painted from the original finish. Any ideas of age or value. My plan is to keep it after stripping and polishing it down to the steel, but I would love to know more about it. Thanks in advance from a newbie.

I think the finish could be original. The Simmons pieces with this more traditional styling are not generally what people want. They want the Norman Bel Geddes designed and/or the more art deco design pieces. Would think your piece is from the 20s.

Here is a previous thread we had on the subject. Note that there is a somewhat similar armoire to yours shown.

I might also mention that Simmons furniture tends to bring a premium in Chicago where it was made. It also brings a premium once stripped to bare metal and lacquered. Here is a site in Chicago selling stripped and lacquered Simmons furniture. It is at the top of the food change as far as prices go. Values drop off quite a bit depending on area and selling venue.

They do show the more traditional styles with good values here so perhaps trends have changed a bit (or the more modern has become more scarce).
