Yes they were. When I was researching the platter my marks example appears on (over on the 925 forums) I also learned that the llama was their "house mark."

Don't know if this of any interest -- as you already know much about the brand -- but Casa Welsch was the name adopted by the jewelry store in 1947. Before that, it was called G. Welsch, Ehni & Cia. (Ehni being the German parent company.) Now called Cabuchon. Official web site below.

Just curious....how does one distinguish a tie clip from a money clip?
Tie clip usually narrow, money clip wider?
Does anyone still use a money clip, or is that a custom that has gone by?

In most cases but not all, the tie clip will be spring loaded, and where it's not it will look like a bobby pin on steroids. One solid bent piece of metal with no burrs to hurt the silk....as most older ties were made of silk.
A money clip will almost always be larger and wider and thicker.
    IMO...

Most of my tie clips have little alligator-type clips; and I don't use a money clip. I'm probably just low-class.
No tie-tacks; it has always seemed dumb to me, to buy a nice silk tie, then poke a hole in it.....

tie clip different than a tie tac......but if introduced with care , a heavy silk tie will repair itself as long as the tac wasn't pulled on.
( or left in long after use.)

I'd say they are both money clips.

Yes, in theory; but I only use tie clips now, after having one of my favorite ties seriously punctured by a tie-tac. Maybe I wasn't careful enough, but why take chances, I figure.

But I digress, as usual. I haven't found OP's item in any online reference, in any case - whether as tie-clip or money clip.

Probably....I favor garish ties, worn in musical performance with silk shirts....so when I need a subtle tie for formal occasions, my selection is somewhat limited......there's the one with King Kong on the Empire State building, the one with little frogs....nothing that normal people would wear, probably....and it doesn't much matter what clip one uses with King Kong.....
My kids don't give me nice normal ties for Christmas or Father's Day........the closest they came to normal was a Jerry Garcia design.....

Another from today's box...this one will grab a tie! Tested as jade...but what a horrible setting!

Lots of pretty tie pins today too...
