Well, it's marked and stamped and I still can't figure it out! Okay. It's 18k. I figured that out :banghead:

    Maker, date, symbolism????

Thank you for any help you can lend!

Well, the maker name appears to be B. Alcedo. And if I'm right, the "symbol" following that is the llama for Peru. I have some Peruvian silver and the llama looks just like that one.

The jaguar and the eagle are on the front, greg. ;)

But you would be a better person than I to take a stab at "when."

I've googled B. Alcedo alone and with other words that seem appropriate and can't find a thing...thought maybe I was reading it wrong...

    I like llamas...

I tried searching the 925 site South American forums for Alcedo, but that didn't get a hit either.

How about 18K plated and an Alpaca ?

The Peruvian national symbol for silver is the llama, no alpaca about it. ;)

I don't know that I see an alpaca...you guys are talking about on the back, yes?

Under a loupe it looks more like an A and an apostrophe...

Of course, I have, Davey. But that llama symbol would not appear on "alpacca" items.

I thought you were asking whether the animal symbol that follows ALCEDO on the back was an alpaca. A lot of people confuse the 2 animals.

I think the stamp is just a little worn. Here's the marks on one of my Peruvian pieces.

Glad I pulled that particular piece out. My notes (from 4 years ago) reminded me that the llama is the "house mark" for Welsch, a major Lima silver house and not a "national mark." So that should mean that Welsch was the maker and Alcedo was the retailer?

Edit - Or perhaps the reverse, but in either case, Welsch was involved and they were very high-end.

I don't see anything resembling that llama on this piece @Bakersgma. I sure wish I did! I could stop googling like a crazy woman :bookworm:

If you look closely at the area on your first pic, you should see as I do that the long neck and head are on the right and fairly well struck, but the body and legs are poorly struck on the leg part and over-struck on the body. Part of the issue might be the thinness of the piece is was being struck on, not to mention that the piece has also been bent to achieve the grip on the tie. I have no doubt.

I see what you're saying, Melissa. Yours does look more like a poorly struck camel crossed with a brontosaurus.
