Possibly, it's on the same face/side of each chopstick, but surely the maker would've deliberately avoided this? They are after all, meant to be straight...?

Well all the tusk is used as Ivory is expensive, maybe this was a remnant piece.

Possibly. I'mma leave the sticks clamped as you see in the photos, for overnight and see what happens in the morning.

Somewhere in there is a sex joke... :p

I just unclamped the sticks. There is a minor improvement. I have re-positioned them and re-clamped them and will check them in the morning :)

Ivory is a natural material & over time a long slender piece may well warp a certain degree.
You've seen my old ones , they have separation lines running all over them, & I would never try to force them into a different position.
What you are doing is stressing the material , & it may have unforeseen consequences !!

I would certainly try a gentler approach. Applying some pressure has never hurt my fans, but six big coffeetable books or similar pressure, is something I would never dare to do.
You want material that has had a curve for years to be straight again. Take your time, let the material ease into it. Being gentle and patient with the ivory is the best way, and respectful as well.
So what if it takes a year or longer, you can still use them whenever you like.

Well I've clamped the sticks for about eight hours now and the pressure doesn't appear to have adversely affected them. Will continue for the rest of the day.
